Duncan C. Agnew is a geophysicist at the Cecil H. and Ida M. Green Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego. He investigates crustal deformation and its relationship to earthquakes.

Agnew attended the California Institute of Technology and received a BS in astronomy. He earned a PhD in earth science from Scripps Institution of Oceanography.

Agnew participates in various research projects to understand seismic activity and earthquakes, particularly within southern California, often utilizing data from the UCSD-operated Piñon Flat Observatory to monitor crustal motion in the region.

Prior to joining Scripps, Agnew worked as a visiting fellow at the University of Colorado, Boulder. For seven years he was an assistant research geophysicist at UCSD, then he began his research with IGPP at Scripps.

Agnew has published numerous journal articles concerning earthquakes and crustal motion in California. He is a member of the American Geophysical Union and the Royal Astronomical Society. Agnew received a fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science to work at the National Astronomical Observatory in Japan.
